Top of the morning to you

The weatherman has predicted a measureable amount of snow for tomorrow. As a critter watcher I recognize the signs of oncoming weather both in children and animals. This overcastted morning we have a cool wet feeling wind blowing out of the north. B-u-rrrrrrrrrrr!!! My fine feathered friends are chowing down the buffet of birdseed faster than a mule on skates. (not that I have ever seen a mule on skates, but it sounds like a lot of fun.) The cattle have their heads glued down to the mineral lick like a child with their first ice cream cone. Rocky the squirrel is stealing as much bird seed as the woodpeckers and blue jays will allow. All this activity tells me I better have a good wood supply and a warm fuzzy pair of socks because we are about to embark on a snowstorm. Now we all know how much your MaMa dislikes winter. The word hate is really not too strong. Yesterday I saw the bees buzzing to big oak tree with buds about to spring forth so I can endure one more winter storm. Only because I have the hope of spring arriving very soon. So today after I restock the wood supply, birdseed, dog and cat food, you will find me curled up with my fuzzy socks and the latest seed catalog dreaming of warm summer days.

You all have a happy and blessed day,
MaMa

Teen Preggers

Good Morning Little Darling,

We have had another fun filled morning around the Ponderosa. Dad delights in purchasing starving, half dead animals at the sale barns and beefing them up and turning a nice profit. Several weeks ago he brought home some skinny bovines that were with calf. Not only were they hungry, they were really too young to be bred. Dad refers to these delightful animals as pregnant teenagers. The thought process here is that you can buy a $600.00 animal for $400.00 and get a calf to boot, hence profit margin. (something we rarely experience in farm life.)

Last night Dad penned the first pregnant teen as she was starting labor. At bedtime he checked his patient and she just wasn't progressing well. He checked her first thing this morning and she was going to need help. As he was leaving the breakfast table something about a C-section was mentioned. Now being a farm wife for many years I know that those lovely words means you loose any profit and then some no matter how cheap the animal is. He then had to don the gloves that go up to his neck , grab the jaws of life (calf pullers) and pull the calf. The young mother survived the ordeal but the little one bit the dust. Dad being the positive person he is just says ,"at least I got a cow out of the deal." This is the same person who brought me a couple sacks of dead ducks from a sale barn shortly after we were married. Yes kids, Mom has had many unique "gifts" over the years. The moral of this story is that getting pregnant as a teen is not a good idea for human or bovines or don't count your ducks before you get them home.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful day,
MaMa

Ga' Day

This morning is off to a good start. The sun is glowing, glistening against the aqua blue sky. The birds are singing just beckoning that first day of spring. My day lilies are poking their green little heads through the earth just to get a peek of what's to come. Combine all this together and Mama gets the itch to go out and get my hands dirty. Then, like a slap in the face the wind hits me with its 20 degree force and I realize that I really need coveralls and a stocking cap to be out in these elements. So my dream day is put on the back burner and I put another log on to fuel the crackling fire in the fire place that feels so wonderful to me right now. I just have to wait and we all know how well I wait !!!!!

You all have just a wonderfully blessed day,
Mom
